Volunteers... MAKE THE MISSION POSSIBLE
Hooray for volunteers!
At the heart of the Greater Lovell Land Trust are the volunteers who make the mission possible. The GLLT has been fortunate in having dedicated members who make up the Board of Directors, serve on committees, and assist with a variety of programs including:
Monitoring Conservation Easements
Volunteer Docents
Properties Stewardship
Pollinator Garden
Children’s’ Programs & Events
Volunteer Opportunities:
Groundhog Crew
GLLT’s trail crew, affectionately known as the Groundhogs, is another cornerstone of GLLT’s stewardship program. Helping to maintain our trails and tackle large stewardship projects. The Groundhogs work as a team under the volunteer Crew Lead and Stewardship Manager, and meet every Thursday morning from 10:00am to roughly 12:00pm during the spring, summer, and into the fall. Attendance is casual, with some folks coming out to every workday, and others joining us when they have time. The Groundhogs work on a variety of projects to help steward GLLT lands, including:
Construction of new trails and re-routing of established trails.
Implementing erosion control measures, such as building water bars and other drainage structures.
Completing trail improvement projects, such as rebuilding damaged trail treadway.
Large-scale property maintenance projects, such as maintaining view cuts and trimming entire trail networks.
Construction/installation of trail infrastructure, such as building bridges and installing kiosks.

Nature Group
Who: We are a diverse group of men and women of all ages from Lovell, Stow, Stoneham, Sweden, and beyond who love learning about the natural world and sharing our knowledge with others.
What: Every Wednesday we walk together on one of the GLLT properties, paying attention to all of the features of the natural world that we encounter. Sometimes these walks have a focus (e.g., wildflowers, mushrooms, mammal tracks, etc.), while other times we look at whatever nature presents that day. We periodically offer nature-themed activities and talks across the seasons open to all.
How to Join: Simply join us on our walks! We welcome newcomers with open arms. No commitment is required, and no advance registration is necessary. Just bring your curiosity and sense of wonder. The time and location of each week’s walk are published in each Monday’s GLLT email blast and on the GLLT website and Facebook page. If you have questions, please contact Lizzy.Echard@gllt.org.
Weekly Weeder Garden Volunteers
The Weekly Weeder Garden volunteers help to care for our pollinator garden. Email lizzy.echard@gllt.org if interested.
Conservation Easement Monitors
Each year, GLLT is responsible for monitoring all of the easements we hold. Ranging from very easy to rigorous, monitoring volunteers identify the type of property best suited to them. Teams of one to two people set out for a few hours with GLLT staff or a knowledgeable volunteer to walk the property and evaluate the conditions relevant to the terms of the easement. Training is offered annually. Email rhyan.paquereau@gllt.org if interested.
Trail Stewards
GLLT owns several properties with public access trails. Trail systems range in length from 0.5 miles to over 3 miles. The job of the trail monitor is ideally to visit the assigned trail monthly or more to assess conditions, address minor trail maintenance needs, and report major issues for trail crew follow-up. Email rhyan.paqeureau@gllt.org if interested.
